DescriptionMemorial to Anne Bennet, York Minster (14027907027).jpg | York Minster, mural monument to Anne Bennet (d.1601), a daughter of Christopher Weekes (d.1596), of Sarum (Salisbury) in Wiltshire, thrice a Member of Parliament for Salisbury, (Source: History of Parliament biography[1]) and 1st wife of Sir John Bennet (c 1553-1627), a judge, Chancellor of York Diocese, a Member of Parliament for several constituencies, knighted in 1603, 2nd son of Richard Bennet of Clapcot, Berkshire (Source: History of Parliament biography[2]). Monument by Nicholas Stone, and his earliest work still in existence. Arms: Bennet (Gules, a bezant between three demi-lions rampant argent) (same arms as Bennet, Earl of Tankerville. (Source: Burke, Sir Bernard, The General Armory, London, 1884, p.70) impaling Weekes (Argent, on a pale between two palets sable three greyhound's heads erased or collared gules) (Source: Burke, Sir Bernard, The General Armory, London, 1884, p.1142, Wykes of Dursley, Gloucestershire). At top left, a shield quarterly of 4: Weekes quartering Or, a chevron engrailed ermines between three lions rampant sable (unknown family). The trumpet of the top angel has been reversed. |
