English: Medusaegraptus mirabilis Ruedemann, 1925 - fossil alga in argillaceous dolostone from the Silurian of New York State, USA.
Rudolf Ruedemann originally identified this fossil as a dendroid graptolite. Modern workers assign this material to the dasyclad green algae. The fossil is preserved as a dark, flattened, carbon-rich film, a preservation style known as carbonization. Classification: Plantae, Chlorophyta, Ulvophyceae, Dasycladales, Seletonellaceae, Dasyporelleae, Medusaeporinae Stratigraphy: Medusaegraptus Epibole (part of the “Gasport Channel” or “Gasport Lens”), mid-Niagara Falls Member, lower Goat Island Formation, Lockport Group, ~lower Ludlovian Series, lower Upper Silurian. Locality: Lafarge Gasport Quarry, Gasport, eastern Niagara County, western New York State, USA. |
