Medallion patchwork quilt in brown and white has patches in random-sized squares and rectangles to form the 47" x 49" center block; patches are various patterned fabrics in brown and white with some red and blue; top and bottom borders are pieced from 3 and 5 sections, one side border is pieced from 2 sections and the other is whole, border fabric is printed in a brown vine with branches of flowers on a brown dot background; backing fabric has pink and brown flowers with green leaves on vines or vertically without vines, backing is pieced from 7 sections, toward one edge is drawn the following (see doc. file for drawing); quilt is grid-quilted 1 1/2 and is finished by turning in the front and back edges to the middle and sewing at the edge and 1/2" from the edge; stains in the areas on both sides, front shows scattered fabric loss especially in creases and edges.; Medallion quilts were popular in England, which influenced American quilt makers. The quilt is composed of pieced squares and rectangles of roller-printed cotton fabric and linen sewed together in a large square medallion, which is then pieced with wide borders of brown and white roller printed fabric. The linen backing fabric has pink and brown flowers and is pieced in seven sections. The quilt is grid-quilted 1 ½”. Size is approximately 97” x 98”
