English: Queen's South Africa Medal 1899-1902 with five bars Medal awarded to Pte James Crichton. silver medal; five bars; plain straight swivelling suspender; with ribbon obverse- crowned and veiled head of Queen Victoria and legend VICTORIA REGINA ET IMPERATRIX reverse- Britannia with a flag in her left hand and holding out a laurel wreath in her right towards an advancing party of soldiers; in the background are two warships; below the wreath, in two lines- 1899-1900 in relief; around top- SOUTH AFRICA bars- SOUTH AFRICA 1901 - SOUTH AFRICA 1902- TRANSVAAL - ORANGE FREE STATE - CAPE COLONY ribbon- red with two dark blue stripes and a broad orange central stripe named on edge- PTE. J. CRICHTON CAM'N. HIGHRS
