  • Caption from caption list: April 6th, the anniversary of the declaration of war against Germany the American Legion Post #21 will plant a memorial tree at Walter Reed General Hospital Washington D.C. Photo shows Miss Emma Mearns, daughter of Capt. Hugh Mearns receiving in the name of the American Legion the bronze marker of the American Forestry Assn. presented by Mrs Walter Reed widow of the famous physician for whom the Hospital is named. This will be the first memorial tree planted and registered on the Honor Roll of the American Forestry Assn.
