Summary

Description
English: This image shows exposures of the McRae Formation near the south side of Elephant Butte, New Mexico, USA. The McRae Formation is the dark beds along the shore showing lighter "bathtub ring" marks from various stands of the water in Elephant Butte Reservoir. The McRae Formation is also present in the lower slopes of the background ridge, whose upper slopes are Mesaverde Group beds. The McRae Formation is a Cretaceous continental formation that has yielded significant vertebrate fossils.
