Summary

Description

1931 matriculation group photograph of women students at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford. Mary Creighton Bailey, at 18 years old, is number 16. When young, she looked very different from the slim, ascetic and scholarly-looking woman that she became in her latter years. She did always have a wonderfully mischievous smile, though that is not evident in the picture.

This picture of Mary Creighton Bailey could not be used as an ID photo in her en.WP article, because this early version of her would not be recognised by those who remember her as headmistress at Simon Langton Girls' Grammar School, Canterbury.

Note: a full effort has been made to establish the individual photographer of this image, via archives, libraries, collections, books, internet etc., but none was found.
