Summary
DescriptionMating deer (30951561596).jpg |
Well, this is certainly a first for me!! I have never seen anything like this....with deer anyway. They were pretty far away...too far for my camera to get a clear shot (which is probably a good thing 😃). I decided to post the two photos anyway. "Bruiser" is one of the big boys of the neighborhood. His antlers are pretty large but his body size is fairly normal. In fact I think that his body size is smaller than Comet's body. I was pretty shocked when I walked out on the deck and saw him strutting around this female. He continually nudged her and walked around her before mating. After their "encounter" he walked up beside her and licked her face! We have a rather large herd of White Tailed Deer in our area and surprisingly this is the first time since moving into this house (15 yrs ago) that I have ever seen deer mating! Of course each year we see the bucks running after the females but have never seen anything like this. It's always kind of neat to get a picture of something that you have never seen before and of something that doesn't normally take place out in the open. Hopefully this picture does not offend anyone. I apologize if it does. I actually had to laugh when I looked at the picture. He looks kind of silly with his front feet hanging off of the ground doesn't he?! I'm surprised that this small female is able to hold him up!! |
