Note that it may still be copyrighted in jurisdictions that do not apply the rule of the shorter term for US works (depending on the date of the author's death), such as Canada (70 years p.m.a.), Mainland China (50 years p.m.a., not Hong Kong or Macao), Germany (70 years p.m.a.), Mexico (100 years p.m.a.), Switzerland (70 years p.m.a.), and other countries with individual treaties.
This print of the image was published in 1957 with a print newspaper article attached to the reverse (see source), which bore a Seattle Times copyright notice; the Seattle Times photo archive contains no images of the subject ([1]). A version of this image published in 1959 bore no copyright notice, and another version of this image published in 1957 bore a similar copyright notice for the print newspaper articles in which the image appears, in the Cleveland Plain Dealer; also similarly, the Cleveland Plain Dealer photo archives FAQ writes that they do not hold photographs ([2]). If either outlet claimed copyright on the image content in the articles (and, thus, this photo), it has not been renewed.
