English: Reproduction of the bar scale of the tondo e quadro ("circle and square") depicted in the 1436 atlas of Venetian captain Andrea Bianco, to be used for the Rule of Marteloio. The length of the bar scale is two unit squares of the quadro grid. A unit square has length 20 miles or 100 miles, depending on whether one chooses the top or the bottom scale bar. Top bar (20 miles-per-square) has a black dot for each mile. Bottom bar (100 miles-per-square) denotes sub-units of 50 miles and red lines for each 10 miles.
