Description

The description of the illustrations reads: "Altar dedicated to the deities Mars Thingsus, Beda and Fimmilena, by the German Tuihantian citizens (Front view.) [From Borcovicus] [No. 194]". The altar was found in the old Borcovicus [Vercovicium], now Housesteads, Northumberland, United Kingdom. Mars Thingsus is often interpreted as relating to or being the same figure as the West Germanic deity Ziu/Tiw, equal to the Norse deity Týr.
