Summary

Description
English: One of the earliest photos of an entertainment radio broadcast, by French opera soprano (and New York Manhattan Opera Company star) Mariette Mazarin on February 24, 1910, singing selections from "Carmen" into radio entrepreneur Lee De Forest's experimental transmitter. From 1907 to 1910 De Forest, an opera buff, held a half-dozen promotional events in which he broadcast live performances of stars like Mazarin and Farrar, plus Enrico Caruso of the New York Metropolitan Opera, using his primitive arc converter AM radio transmitter. There were few radio receivers at the time equipped to receive AM transmissions, so these were publicity events. DeForest did not inaugurate regular entertainment broadcasts until late 1916, over station 2XG.
