Summary

Description
English: The center of Maria is moving rapidly at 45-50 knots across the Avalon Peninsula in Newfoundland and into colder water, beginning its extratropical transition. Because of the extreme forward motion of the storm, weakening will be slower than usual. Hurricane winds are likely only occurring to the southeast of the center and may remain offshore. This image is from GOES East at 1615Z on September 16, 2011.
