| Description |
English: Maraapunisaurus is a sauropod dinosaur from the Late Jurassic of western North America. It is known only from a part of a spinal vertebrae that might have been nearly 3 m tall. The fragile 1.5 m remnant was described in 1878, and has since been lost. Due to the questionable nature of this specimen's history, size estimates of Maraapunisaurus vary, but it is thought to be around 35-40 m in length, weighing 70-120 t. If the original description is accurate, even conservative estimates place Maraapunisaurus as one of the largest animals ever to walk the earth. |
