Description
English: Richard W. Colcock Maj. Richard Woodward Colcock and Mellicent Jane Bacot married in Charleston, South Carolina in 1843. This photograph was created at some point between their wedding day in 1843 and her death on August 14, of 1851. They were the parents of five children. He graduated from West Point on July 1, 1826. (His roommate was Jefferson Davis.) He was the second Superintendent of The Citadel Academy from 1844 to 1852, when he retired.

Source A copy of the original photograph of Richard and Mellicent Colcock is in my private family collection. This uploaded image is a cropped version of it.
Author There is no identifying mark on the photograph. It was taken prior to Mellicent Colcock's death in 1851, over 172 years ago. Perhaps a photography historian can determine who the photographer might have been.
