Summary

Description
English: Bhavashankari bravely defeated the Pathans to save her kingdom. Bhurishreshtha/Bhurshut was a wealthy and prosperous kingdom of 14th-15th century Howrah and Hooghly districts West Bengal, India. Maharani Bhavashankari's husband Maharaja Rudranarayan Raymukhuty was the ruler of Bhurishrestha, who consolidated and expanded the kingdom and converted it into one of the most powerful Hindu kingdoms of the time. He broke the traditional alliance with the Pathan sultans of Odisha and accounted for the downfall of the Pathan regime in Bengal. In Ain-i-Akbari it is mentioned that amongst the thirty-one mahals under Sirkar Suleimanabad, the highest revenue was earned by Basandhari pargana, followed by Bhurshut. No other pargana under Sirkar Satgaon or Sirkar Mandaran earned so much revenue. Bhavashankari fought two battles against the Pathans and defeated them twice. She made Pathan leader Osman Khan flee from Bengal in disguise. Scared and amazed by her valour, Mughal emperor Akbar sent Raja Man Singh (Kachwaha Raja of Jaipur and the then governor of Bengal) to sign a peace treaty between Mughal empire and Bhurshut kingdom. Akbar also honoured Bhavashankari with the title of "Raibaghini" (courageous) nd the Mughals nver interferred with Bhursut Kingdom. Bhavashanari was noted for her courage since her childhood, breaking stereotypes against women and united people of different castes and classes of her kingdom and bringing prosperity during her reign.
