The coordinates are based on the knowledge that the war memorial was originally positioned on River Road beside the Sydney Street bridge across from the Mackay Customs House. This photo shows a view of memorial (probably from the Sydney Street Bridg)e with the Post Office to the right (west). The Post Office is now the extant Telstra building on River Road but which looks very different due to remodelling. The Customs House and bridge are not visible in the photo but would be just off to the left (east).
