DescriptionMTBVAC cell compared to Mycobacterium tuberculosis.png
English: The phoP and fadD26 rational inactivation in MTBVAC results in virulence attenuation and enhanced immunogenicity relative to the M. tuberculosis pathogen. MTBVAC does not secrete ESAT-6, a major virulence factor of M. tuberculosis. MTBVAC lacks acyltrehalose-derived lipids, pthiocerol dimycocerosates and sulfolipids involved in virulence and immunomodulation. MTBVAC also secretes higher ammounts of immunogenic proteins, such as the Ag85 complex. (adapted from Broset, E., et al., 2015)8.
