Summary

Description
English: This map shows search areas and the possible locations of debris from Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 taking account the effects of ocean drift. The background image was generated by computer models of debris originating in search areas S3-5 between March 28-April 27 and taking into account the effects of wind and currents on a variety of debris characteristics. The search areas A-E represent possible splash points based on several models or the aircraft's route and lie along an arc. This arc is equidistant to the satellite which Flight 370 was in contact and is based on the calculated distance from the satellite at its final contact. The satellite does not record the direction of received signals. Numerous models were made and run to determine the most probable location of the aircraft along the arc, resulting in various search areas: S1-6 (not shown) and the three colored areas (D, E, & F).
