| Purpose of use |
To illustrate an original encyclopedic article about the murder of Lynette White, on Wikipedia. The image is used to illustrate to a reader the appearance of the prime suspect immediately after the murder. Seen near the scene of the crime, covered in blood, the suspect was a lone white male. The resulting arrest and prosecution of five Black men from the local community and the jailing of three of them was met with incredulity in Cardiff. The case led to a gross miscarriage of justice and the largest police corruption trial in British criminal history when subsequent appeals uncovered fabricated evidence and false witness statements. 15 years later DNA evidence led to the arrest and conviction of the real killer—a lone white male. |

The image was released to the public for broad distribution by South Wales Police, who would not lose profit from its further distribution. It is believed to be free for distribution and reuse.
