English: Tomb Guardians. Tang Dynasty, 618 AD - 907 AD. City Museum, Luoyang
These fantastical and bizarre tomb guardians are chimeras -- combinations of parts of other animals, and even plants. The guardian with flower ears and a human face (left of the antlered figure) is perhaps a vegetation god who represents the promise of regeneration from the earth.
