Lowell Crater. As on the Moon and Mercury, very large impacts form multiringed basins such as this 210-km diameter crater. Radial lines of secondary craters are clearly visible outside the more disordered terrain close to the rim crest, despite partial dissection by small channels. The smooth feature in the center of the basin may be a low-lying cloud. To the north of Lowell, near the center of the picture is Slipher Crater. 34A17-20; 52°S, 81°W
