After drainage, the land may possible then be used to grow nutrious crops that do not thrive very well in nad with a soggy top-layer. Also, drainage trough this system may also be very useful in urban environments (eg cities) where the streets are not yet paved (eg in the Sahel/Sahara). Take into account that where asphalt (not with concrete) has already been used, the collected water will thus be polluted aswell and will then require extensive purification before use.
Note that instead of a pressure vessel, a regular tank and/or a inline pump controllers or pressure-sensitive pumps may also be used. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pressure_vessel#Alternatives_to_pressure_vessels .Also, a special water system with cistern (see Image:Water System With Cistern.svg), where the pressure vessel is removed and the cistern itself works as a pressure vessel can be used. This would allow the system to be build DIY (rather than needing to buy a pressure vessel or weld your own pressure vessel casing).
Instead of using drainage for remote natural wetlands, water-tolerant (and thus more suitable) crops are better used. If no nutrious crops (eg protein-rich crops) can be grown, trees are better grown instead or the land is best left unused/sold.
Advantages of system:
Low cost due to the use of earthenware/stoneware piping which can be made on-site with minimal tools using locally available material that can often be aquired for free or at very low prices.
The design was made after reading about the Nabataean water systems (which include terracotta water distribution systems). See The Ecologist - Nabatean Water (http://www.eitanhaddok.com/page5.html).
