English: Oregon State University scientists John Ruben and Terry Jones developed this artist's image of what they believed Longisquama insignis would have looked like, as it glided through trees in central Asia 220 million years ago. As outlined in a publication in the journal Science, the researchers say this animal may have been the earliest ancestor of birds, but clearly was not a dinosaur.
