Summary
[edit]I took this photograph of the book cover with a digital camera set on low resolution, cropped it in Photoshop, and saved it as a low-resolution jpeg. Fair-use rationale: This image is included for the purpose of "identification only in the context of critical commentary of that item."
Licensing
[edit]This image is of book cover(s), and the copyright for it is most likely owned either by the artist who created the cover(s) or the publisher of the book(s). It is believed that the use of low-resolution images of book covers
qualifies as fair use under the copyright law of the United States. Any other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, might be copyright infringement. See Wikipedia:Non-free content for more information. | |
Fair use in Burl Ives Presents America's Musical Heritage
[edit]Though this image is subject to copyright, its use is covered by the U.S. fair use laws because:
- It's a low resolution copy of a book cover.
- It doesn't limit the copyright owner's rights to sell the book in any way; in fact, it may encourage sales.
- Because of the low resolution, copies could not be used to make illegal copies of the artwork for another book.
- The image is itself a subject of discussion in the article or used in the infobox thereof.
- The image on the cover is significant because it was made by a famous artist.
Source
[edit]- Derived from a digital capture (scan/photo) of the book cover (creator of this digital version is irrelevant as the copyright in all equivalent images is still held by the same party). Copyright held by the book company or the artist. Claimed as fair use regardless.
