Summary

Description
English: A kit to make a random wire antenna. Wire antennas are used for short wave listening, and by radio amateurs for low power transmitting, in the long wave, medium wave, and shortwave radio bands. The kit consists of a long wire attached at each end to a strain insulator. One end is attached electrically to a balun (cylinder), a small transformer which serves to match the impedance of the antenna to a coaxial cable feedline. To install the antenna, the wire is strung between two buildings or trees high above the ground, supported at the ends by rope attached to the strain insulators. A coaxial cable is attached to the connector on the balun which conducts the radio signal to a radio receiver or, in the case of transmission, feeds radio power from a radio transmitter to the antenna.
