Description
English: Boris The Polar Bear

'Boris was created by sculptor Adam Binder. He is a life-size sculpture of a male polar bear, cast entirely in bronze, weighing around 700kgs. He was on display in Sloane Square for 28 days earlier this year. Boris was created to highlight the plight of the polar bears. Polar bears are endangered due to hunting to supply the international trade in their skins and body parts as well as habitat loss caused by climate change in their Arctic home.

In March 2013, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) are holding a meeting with politicians from around the world to ask them to support a global ban on trade in polar bear products. The UK Government will be voting to support this ban.
