Summary

Description
English: Lomatium vaginatum or broadsheath desertparsley - name according to USDA Plants Database via NRCS, but members of this genus are often called biscuitroot. I cannot speak to the root's flavor, but it was an important source of nutrition for Native Americans. This is a cheerful upland species that I photographed a little above Bull Flat and north of Smoke Creek Road. Lomatiums can be tricky to identify and are numerous in this area. If you're not exactly sure just call it biscuitroot and you'll always be right!
