English: This image shows a sample of gabbro from the interior of the Santa Clara volcanic center that has been exposed by faulting and erosion. It is composed almost entirely of large crystals of pyroxene (black) and plagioclase feldspar (white). The sample is about six cm across. The Santa Clara volcanic center is part of the Jemez Mountains, New Mexico, USA and its flows are assigned to the Lobato Formation. The estimated age is about 9 million years.
