English: Little red flying fox (Pteropus scapulatus). Bats are now associated with several deadly emerging viruses, including Hendra, Nipah, Marburg, and Ebola and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus (SARS CoV). Understanding the biology of these pathogens within and among their hosts is essential for predicting and managing zoonoses. Plowright et al.
