English: Picture of Linden Grove located at 1100 Grove Road in Castle Shannon, Pennsylvania, on April 11, 2010.
The sign says, "The Linden Grove - Since 1872 - Fun Place To Meet & Eat". This site was once listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP), but was delisted on January 20, 2000. I figure the reason it was removed from the NRHP is because the structure that was originally there was demolished. The current building there is a more recent construction called "The Linden Grove Nightclub". The original "Linden Grove was built as an attraction to German picnickers, as were several other groves patronized by various ethnic groups. Wagons with benches met picnickers at the train station and took them to whichever grove catered to their nationality."[1][2] "Linden Grove (Building - #87001970) Also known as The Grove, at Grove Rd. at Library Rd. & Willow Ave., Castle Shannon, PA. Historic Significance: Event, Architecture/Engineering. Area of Significance: Architecture, Entertainment/Recreation. Period of Significance: 1850-1874, 1875-1899, 1900-1924. Owner: Private. Historic Function: Commerce/Trade, Domestic, Recreation And Culture."[3] |
