Summary

Description
English: At the back of the Liberty Belle, looking forward, on display at the 2005 Lumberton Celebration of Flight. I took the picture. Shown in this photo is the interior of a B-17 G. Contrary to earlier versions of the B-17, the G series introduced staggered waist windows (so that the waist gunners wouldn’t interfere with each other when firing their guns), plus it was the first version of the B-17 that had plexiglass window panes in the waist. Previous versions of the B-17 had non-paned (open) windows, so that the waist gunners had to wear electrically heated overalls to prevent freeze at travel altitude.
