Description

Au 77, de la rue de Varenne, au pied du dôme des Invalides, se dresse l'hôtel Biron, non pas compris entre cour et jardin comme il l'est de tradition pour tous les hôtels du faubourg Saint-Germain, mais isolé, tel un véritable château, au milieu d'un parc de trois hectares.

Construit entre 1728 et 1730 par Jean Aubert, le futur architecte des fastueuses écuries du château de Chantilly, l'hôtel fut commandé par Abraham Peyrenc de Moras, perruquier enrichi dans la spéculation sur le papier monnaie. Bien que Peyrenc de Moras fût un véritable "nouveau riche", il fit preuve d'une infaillible sûreté de goût, faisant appel à Aubert qui réalisa là l'un des chefs-d'oeuvre de l'architecture rocaille.
