English: Dotted stylewort.
An annual herb flowering September and October in white sandy soils north of Perth. This one is recognisable by the eight maroon spots near the throat of the flowers. When the flower is visited by an insect the labellum (trigger) is released and its movement causes the column to shed the pollen. florabase.dpaw.wa.gov.au/browse/profile/22152 It is closely related to the genus Stylidium which has an irritable trigger, triggered by visiting insects. The 'trigger' can be reset a number of times, however with the Levenhookia once the trigger' has been released, it cannot be reset. Photo: Fred |
