Description

Le parc, l'horloge et le stupa du Vat Phnom

La Vat Phnom est le lieu sacré de Phnom-Penh. C'est sur cette colline de 30 m, aujourd'hui en plein centre ville, que la légende situe, en 1373, la première pagode destinée à abriter quatre statues du Bouddha découvertes au bord du Mékong par une femme appelée Penh.

Au sommet de la colline se trouvent : - une pagode-sanctuaire (vihara) reconstruite plusieurs fois au cours des siècles, - un grand stupa renfermant les cendres du roi Ponhea Yat (1405-1467), - un pavillon qui contient la statue de Madame Penh, - un temple dédié au Génie local (Neak Ta Prah Chau) entouré de dieux hindous et chinois

Au pied de la colline, se trouve une grande horloge sur gazon dans un parc ombragé devant un mémorial datant de l'époque coloniale.
