Laudas Joly won a seat as a UFA candidate in the 1921 Alberta general election in the St. Paul electoral district, and again in the 1926 election. He was defeated in the 1930 Alberta general election by Liberal Joseph Dechene by 18 votes. Another attempt to win his seat back in the 1935 election resulted in his loss to Social Credit candidate Joseph Baudry. Laudas Joly ran again in 1952 as a Social Credit candidate in the new Bonnyville electoral district, winning a major victory. Joly retired from politics in 1955
