DescriptionLamesley station site geograph-3740763-by-Ben-Brooksbank.jpg
English: Site of former Lamesley station, 2002.
View westward on Lamesley Road, to the bridge carrying the ex-NER East Coast Main Line: Durham, Darliington etc. to left, Gateshead and Newcastle to right. Lamesley station was about 1km north of here on Smithy Lane, but was closed to passengers 4/6/45 (to goods, 14/9/59). In 1963 the large new Tyne Marshalling Yard was built, northwards from this bridge on the west (Down) side, swallowing up the site of Lamesley station. Since 2002, a large overbridge has been built here over both the railway and the new A1(M) Gateshead by-pass road.
