The white silk or satin scarf is a sign of blessing in the Himalayan Buddhist culture. Often visitors are presented with one as a sign of honor, respect, and blessing. Many times these scarves are attached to places of particular interest of significance. This is a closeup of an ancient monestary door in Leh, Ladakh.
