La stèle à Guglielmo Marconi Cette place prévue pour être au centre de l'Exposition universelle a été rebaptisée Piazza Guglielmo Marconi en hommage à l'inventeur de la radio, après avoir été nommée Place Impériale dans le projet fasciste pour l'EUR. Plusieurs bâtiments dont d'importants musées entourent la place. _______________ La création du nouveau quartier de Rome, appelé EUR : Esposizione Universale di Roma, a été décidée en 1936 par Benito Mussolini (1883-1945) pour célébrer le 20ème anniversaire de la marche sur Rome par une Exposition Universelle qui devait se tenir en 1942. Quelques bâtiments ont été construits mais les travaux d'aménagement et de construction ont été stoppés par la guerre. Les architectes chargés du projet étaient : Marcello Piacentini entouré de Giuseppe Pagano, Luigi Piccinato, Ettore Rossi, Luigi Vietti. Les travaux ont repris en 1951 avec l'ambition de faire de l'EUR un quartier d'affaires associé à une zone urbaine d'habitation reliée par le métro à Rome et par le train à Ostie. |
