Summary
| Description |
La Coupée is an isthmus on the channel island of Sark. It connects mainland Sark to a smaller peninsula known simply as 'Little Sark'. With 100m drops to the sea on each side the road is very much exposed to the elements. In this car free island, cyclists are required to dismount for the crossing. During the German occupation during WWII, prisoners of war paved the road and built barriers. Prior to this, the road was unguarded on either side. It's said that children from Little Sark going to school on the mainland would have to cross on all fours when it was windy. |
