English: A Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries biologist working with the United States Coast Guard Strike Team performing skimming operations in the Gulf of Mexico retrieved an oiled Kemp’s Ridley sea turtle late Friday evening.
LDWF biologist Robert Boothe retrieved the oiled turtle and transported it to the LDWF Fisheries Research Lab in Grand Isle, La. At the lab, biologists took samples of the external oil.
LDWF then transported the turtle to the Audubon Aquarium of the America's Institute staff who are charged with cleaning and rehabilitating the rescued animals. Rescuers named the turtle “Lucky.”
