English: First canal to be built in Wales, in 1766 from Kidwelly Quay, Carmarthenshire, although this section is a later, eastern extension. The towpath later became a railway, and is now overgrown but still a footpath.
Line of the canal viewed from the canal bridge at Pontnewydd. The 1766 section of the canal started 1km south east from pontnewydd, running east to Kidwelly Quay. The extension ran to Cwmmawr, near Cross Hands, some 11km (7 miles) to the northeast.
