Summary

Description
English: The former main synagogue of Hamburg's German-Israelite Congregation was located at 19-20 an den Kohlhoefen in the New City district. Designed by Albrecht Rosengarten and constructed in 1859, it was the first synagogue in Hamburg positioned so that it was visible from the street, though it was nonetheless screened off by a wall. The building stood until it was razed in 1934 as an urban renewal measure.
