Morning Herald page 1 19-9-1959 poor quality cropped version of the photo. The Morning Herald had no renewals when copyright.gov was searched.
A search for renewal was done at copyright.gov. There were no listings for The Times in Shreveport or any renewals listed for Associated Press with an original date of 1959. There's no evidence of current copyright for the photo.
I happened to see that I made a mistake when uploading this, as there's no back of photo link and these aren't archived links. Since this was done more than 2 years ago, the original links are no longer at eBay. The license has been changed to copyright not renewed on the basis of the search above.
Note that it may still be copyrighted in jurisdictions that do not apply the rule of the shorter term for US works (depending on the date of the author's death), such as Canada (70 years p.m.a.), Mainland China (50 years p.m.a., not Hong Kong or Macao), Germany (70 years p.m.a.), Mexico (100 years p.m.a.), Switzerland (70 years p.m.a.), and other countries with individual treaties.
