English: The Park Place-Grand Avenue Residential District on the NRHP since September 12, 2002. The historic district starts at 4th at Park Place and Orleans St. and runs north up Grand Ave. to Rand Park in Keokuk, Iowa. Grand Avenue may provide the grandest spectacle in the Historic District running along the top of the Mississippi River bluff, looking down on the river, with Gilded Age mansions lining the avenue. Several mansions in the district are also listed separately on the NRHP. This fairly small house is Italianate (like many) is on the 800 block of Grand Ave. Each level consists of four main rooms with one room in the font/back and two aside each other in the middle. Each level was approximately 1,500 square feet and there is a formal curved front stair in the front and an informal (maids) stair in the rear going down to the kitchen. There is also a painted brick carriage house in the back of the property with what may have contained living space on the second (900 foot) level plus a door at one end facing the home that was the original outhouse. The property used to be dark brick and was painted in its current color scheme around 1993.
