Description
Kay L-30 Double Bass, 1947

The instrument on the right is a Kay L30 Double Bass from 1947. It was owned by Chubby Jackson a jazz and swing performer in the 1940's and 50's. He played with Woody Herman, Charlie Barnet, Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Lionel Hampton and Duke Ellington. It was the first five string double bass made by the Kay Music Company, who presented it to Mr. Jackson after he won Down Beat Magazine reader's Poll as "bassist of the year" in 1947.
