4-1/2 x 6-1/2 oval brown tone photograph of Kate Fox (Jenkin) (1837-1892), married Henry Jencken (1872), son Ferdinand died in early manhood, son Henry died in childhood. This photograph by Gurney. A reproduction of this same picture is used in the book, KATE FOX AND THE MAKING OF THE FOX-TAYLOR RECORD, by W.G. Langworthy Taylor, with this caption printed under it:Katie FoxFrom Taylor family album"Seek us not elswhere." -- B.F., June 11, 1871"Portrait of Kate Fox Jenken from the Taylor Family album published in Katie Fox and the Making of the Fox-Taylor Record by W. G. Langworthy Taylor. Donated by: Miriam Buckner Pond.""Kate Fox was the unusual medium for the very remarkable paraphysical pictures in this case and for many, many seances which were recorded in the manuscripts in this case and later printed in the publication, Katie Fox and the Fox Taylor Record, a book by W. G. Langworthy Taylor, the only surviving child of the Taylors. These records were also published in a book by Robert Dale Owen, Footfalls on the boundary of Another World, 1860. The Taylor son in his book of the records said of Kate Fox, "The best medium I should define as the one who works untiringly with the least injection of her own personality. Only a careful and unabridged perusal of the whole record can adequately stamp and seal the purity of the mediumship of Katie Fox." Book II, p. 145, and again on p. 149" ...so simple and childlike, still bright and quick: as sensitive as a quivering leaf and irritable as an inflamed eye.""
