Summary
DescriptionKarst-spring-Kefalari Argolis Greece.jpg |
English: karst spring Kefalari (Argolis, 10 km to the coast and the town Argos). The spring discharge is big, but varies seasonally. According to hydrogeological studies (<1984) the subsurface waterways have two origins: Depression Lake Stymphalia and valley like depression of the regional unit Skoteini-Alea (see Alea, Argolis). The subsurface waterways are fed by old katavothren (καταβόθρα, Greek term for ponor), which drain the depressions, when flooded. This was confirmed by dye tracing. Also see the photo: Image:Alea Argolidas.JPG. Even in ancient time of Greece this spring was holy. People in those days suspected, that the water comes from Lake Stymphalia, Spring, cave (60 m, geologically a former waterway), the modern orthodox pilgrimage “Zoodochos Pigi” and the church “Panagia Kefalariotissa” form todays sight. |
