Summary

Description
English: Kain limar (shoulder cloth) from Bangka, probably Muntok, or from Palembang on Sumatra, executed in fine silk with gold songket (brocade). Ikated central field, badan, with floral motifs elaborately framed in supplementary weft with gold thread. Tumpal style kepala (end borders).

Size: 56.5 x 146.5 cm (22.2 x 57.6 in) Yarn: Silk, hand-spun

Comment: Ancient and extremely fine example of the traditional high status shoulder cloth of this region. A true pusaka (heirloom). Gold songket border slightly frayed on six spots due to unfolding and refolding over some two centuries. Natural dyes.
