Notes: John Fairfax (1804-1877) was the founder of an Australian newspaper publishing dynasty. In 1841 he bought the Sydney Herald, renaming it the Sydney Monring Herald in 1842. The SMH remains one of the major New South Wales newspapers to this day. www.adb.online.anu.edu.au/biogs/A040154b.htm
